SSM Health Care has submitted a letter of intent to the state of Missouri's Certificate of Need program to build a replacement hospital in western Jefferson City, Mo. A formal application will be filed in March.

The $200 million project, planned to begin in 2010 and be completed in 2012, will be a full-service hospital with 167 private patient rooms.

This project continues SSM Health Care's recent spate of investments in its four-state system, totaling nearly $700 million. Three new hospitals, St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, Mo., Good Samaritan Regional Health center in Mount Vernon, Ill., and St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo., have been slated as has a plan to implement electronic health records at all of the hospitals in SSM Health Care's system.
