Microsoft announces plans for $550 million data center

by Ryan Phillips
Des Moines

Microsoft Corp. has announced plans to build a $550 million data center in West Des Moines.

The new center is expected to create 50 to 100 jobs for employees making a yearly salary of $70,000. The facility will house Internet services for Microsoft's online services business.

Microsoft is taking advantage of tax incentives passed by the Iowa legislature in 2008. Similar tax breaks in 2007 led to Google building a similar data center in the state that cost $600 million. That facility is expected to create 200 jobs in the state.

Address: Booneville Road and Xavier Place, West Des Moines, Iowa

Size: 42 acres
